The Tourismusverbund Rennsteig-Saaleland eV presents a new edition of the extensive "Thuringian Forest and Sea" adventure map, which clearly shows hiking and biking trails, nature trails, campsites, sights and activities around the Thuringian Sea and Orlasenke.
The region described on the map extends from Rudolstadt via Kahla to Triptis, from Auma-Weidatal via Hirschberg, Lehesten, Gräfenthal to Bad Blankenburg, even as far as Upper Franconia and shows a variety of baths and thermal baths, water sports opportunities, campsites, ancient churches, countless museums , natural and technical monuments as well as imposing castles and palaces. The Thuringian Slate Mountains/Upper Saale nature park region is also presented in more detail.
The experience card is distributed at trade fairs, displayed in tourist information and at partners in the region and sent by post on request.
Together we celebrate a big step towards the future. A pioneering infrastructure project for tourism on and around the Thuringian Sea has been completed and is now officially inaugurated: the public e-bike charging network initiated by the Rennsteig-Saaleland eV tourism association for the holiday region on the Saale cascade and beyond.
Since the idea was born in 2019 and the first test charging stations were set up in summer 2020, a lot has happened in the Saale-Orla and Saalfeld-Rudolstadt districts, where a total of 99 charging stations were set up in two project parts, spread over 35 locations in 20 cities and communities . Some of the charging points can be found along the Saale Cycle Path - for example in Rosenthal am Rennsteig, Schleiz, Saalburg, Burgk, Saalfeld, Rudolstadt or Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel - but also in the towns of the Orla Valley or at other tourist attractions such as Triptis, Pößneck, Ranis, Bad Lobenstein, Lehesten or Plothen. These can be found in the districts of Saale-Orla and Saalfeld-Rudolstadt. The region is thus playing a pioneering role in Thuringia and beyond and creates real added value for both tourists and locals on two wheels.
The charging stations are equipped with a device for connecting the bikes and a lockable locker that offers space for a backpack and a bicycle helmet, for example. Two sockets enable the e-bike and another device, such as a cell phone or camera, to be charged at the same time. To activate one of the charging stations with the distinctive “Thüringer Meer” lettering, all you have to do is insert one euro – regardless of how long you have used it.
Nina Hoffmann from Saalfeld is enthusiastic: The professional mountain bike athlete opened the Schiefergebirge Trophy in people mountain in April. These are two designated mountain bike tours of 51 and 61 kilometers through the slate mountains and the downhill rider and World Cup winner promised: "I will definitely ride one of the tours."
Several representatives of the cultural sector in the Saale-Orla district recently met in the Schleiz town hall with the simple intention of simply getting back into conversation. As we all know only too well, event management is one of the areas that has particularly suffered from the corona-related restrictions of recent years.
In this respect, we all hope together for a new boost for the scene in order to bring the cultural landscape in our region to bloom again. Last but not least, networking and joint marketing under the Saale-Orla summer adventure brand should help.
Be it via the website www.saale-orla-erlebnissommer.de, the various channels on YouTube, Facebook or Instagram, or the classic flyer: With the support of the Eckpunkt agency, we have succeeded in establishing a joint brand that we can use to increase the reach of the organizers and thus also exploit additional potential in the industry .
The Saale-Orla district is mostly in the Thuringian Slate Mountains or in its transitional areas to the Thuringian Holzland and the Vogtland. As a result, the terrain has a clear low mountain range character, more than 80% of the area of the district is over 400 m high. The lowest point is the Orlatal with a height of approx. 180 m above sea level. NN in the municipality of Langenorla. At 733 m, the Sieglitzberg near Bad Lobenstein near the Bavarian border is the highest point in the district. The highest place is Rodacherbrunn at about 700 m altitude.
